Fourteen months after the start of the pandemic, finally we get to have a bigger celebration of fashion and style in Manila after months of lockdown, a lot of jobless workforce, and business such as retail and fashion as one of the hardest-hit industries in this pandemic. Through digital platforms little by little we get to see a reboot, it’s not the same as before and yes it might take years to have a same setup pre-pandemic, yet here we are, being able to navigate through.
Observing even further, the production of digital fashion runway shows like this had to observe the current guidelines set by IATF (Inter-Agency Task Force) by the Philippines, so there are still a number of workforce and individuals that were cut down. For the models alone we only saw three male models all throughout the event, the female models we get to see six. Designers, stylists, make-up team, production team, and other talents can be there on location on still limited numbers, but the rest of photographers and all of the audience whether VIP, sponsors, influencers, enthusiasts or the regular ones, are all pushed back and to watch at home. It could be same three to four seasons more, but were getting there, one season at a time.
So yes we still have a number of menswear looks from Day 5 and finale of Panasonic Manila Fashion Festival Season 12. A couple of personal standout faves are the applique adorned blazers by Gil Macaibay III and avant garde detailed pullover tops by Alodia Cecilia. Watching the digital shows, I get to appreciate the production team behind the editing and runway choreography as they were able to digitally composite the 12 looks or the entire collection in one or several video frames even though there is only around four to six actual models. Day Five designer line-up is Alodia Cecilia, Benjie Panizales, Gil Macaibay III, Mavi Ladlad, and Steph Tan.
